Never had a neat little bush
but have done quite a few window boxes with tradescantia and mixed ivies with large ferns for a bit of height. They can look fairly real if you are further than 6ft away. In summer used to add pelargoniums for colour.
Put them in oasis covered in chicken wire then put pva over the oasis.
