Maybe it depends on how cold your winter can be. I have to dig them up. Dahlias cant take any freezing. I dig them up, wrap them in newspaper and store them cold and frost free. Its hard work but when you are a ,as you put it, dahlia fanatic ( I am) there is no other way. Spring time the same hard work is there but what the .... I love it. When they are in bloom anyway
