Returning To Floristry

As I feel down in the dumps and a bit unhappy with my current employment I am considering returning to floristry. I last worked in a shop about 12 years ago however since then I have been the "resident florist" at our church for special services at Easter and Christmas including planning and organising our 10th anniversary flower festival. I have also made the bouquets for friends weddings that have taken place during that time and also a few family funeral tributes.
I wonder though whether of not a refresher course would be the thing to do before I started applying to local florists? Would any of you shop owners take a gamble on a forty something quick learner considering returning to the trade if I was applying for employment in your shops or would you recommend a course to catch up with the trends that I have missed in my absence?
