CONTINUED..... Double Base

Hi again folks...... I’ve been busy again this week so haven’t had much time for posting but I’ve been trying to log on when possible to keep up with the news!

I thought I’d carry on with the tips etc...... thanks everyone for the donations! Keep ’em coming.......

OK ....... the double base .... this has a few little tricks in it which you can apply in all sorts of ways to all sorts of tributes. The main thing that struck me when I first thought about this one was the mechanics. With any sort of tribute that has a vulnerable, weak spot you must make sure to reinforce it or you could end up with the undertaker ringing you on the morning of the funeral holding just a bit of it in his hand!

The basic process for creating the shape is the same, in principle, as the dartboard. It was important to the customer that this looked like a double base and not a violin or a guitar.
“OK” I said, “in that case it will have to be BIG!"
I charged £250 for this tribute.
I did a little research, to find out the differences, then traced the double base image from a photograph. The other important brief was that it had to include the bow. This was a bit of a challenge but I think it worked OK.

Once I’d printed the image, in the size I needed it, I folded it in half and made sure it was symmetrical (hence the scribbly blue marks on the template). I laid it on the hard side of the designer board, face down and traced the shape outline. As with the dartboard I used my trusty jigsaw to cut along the lines and sliced the soft oasis with a flat bladed knife.
