We've been open for just over two years and in the beginning we didn't charge delivery, if I'm honest there were so many things to do when you first open that i didn't have the time to do a little market research and find out what every one in the area was doing. We always said delivery was free and it was, we didn't try to recover the money in the bouquet, however, once I had more time on my hands and did a costing exercise and realised exactly how much I was spending on diesel I could have chocked!!! As soon as we realised all our hard earned profits were being comprimised we made the changes immediately and our customers never blinked an eye. I thought it would be a problem charging for delivery but it really is not, people expect to pay. For local deliveries within a couple of streets (walking distance)we dont charge, for inside our town its £3 and outside its £5 but there is a strict boundry. Be brave and really look at the whole delivery charge thing do a costing exercise for the month you'll be surprised, if you can live with it then dont charge but if you cant justify that kind of money coming off your bottom line then make the changes asap.
