most wholesalers should have it. a bit like garden string but a lot thicker. If i said 'whip a rope' would you know what i meant?. find an old boy scout or sailor and they will show you how. Much like you use thin cord to 'whip' the end of a rope to stop it fraying. (not necessary now with nylon rope...but i'm showing my age here). You basically just bind the stems over about 3-4 inches but the way it's done, you don't tie any knots and you don't see the ends of the cord. can't remember if i've taken any step-by-step pics. have to have a look.
