Am sure you'll get lots of advice on here. Are you recently qualified? Or did you mean new to being your own boss?

Hi from another newbie
Hi Louise4 I am another newbie in chat. The year I opened my shop I was due to take over in the summer but the owners would not release it to me until November 1st and it was crazy. Have you anywhere that you can store Christmas stock? If you have it's worth getting the sundries early and just have the ordering of your fresh when you get started. Make sure your bank has everything sorted before you open so it is as straight forward for you as possible. - Our bank with 5 months notice made a total hash of it and we didn't have a swipe machine until December grrrrrrr. We ended up taking them to the financial ombudsman we were so unhappy with them and we won our case. With any luck things will go much better for you.

Hey rainbow, i have limited room for some stock that i can keep at home, it is just a matter of prioritising what i should get that will def sell out and what can wait.
I have been running the business from home since june so have everything like chip machine/bank account/phone line already sorted thank god, thought that this way it is just the shop to set up and everything else just gets taken along with me (sounds simple enough, wonder if it will work like that hehe). What would you suggest to get in early i.e things that will sell out early from the wholesalers, i have a small shed that i can dedicate to it till november. |

Hiya pottyboutflowers, i thought being a lunatic was a major factor in being a florist. i have yet to meet a sane one haha
November being quiet would, funnily enough give me some breathing space. just to settle in and work out those gimps that you can't forsee. I am soooo excited, the kids are sick of hearing about 'the shop'. |

I don't know what sells well down your neck of the woods, but I am sure that there are plenty of florists from the south of England who will give you some good advice.
In my shop the Christmas Table arrangements and Christmas Wreaths are my best sellers. As most of my table arrangements for Xmas have candles in them, I make sure I get the candles that my customers like very early or it becomes impossible close to Christmas. I used cinnamon sticks and cones and dried fruit as well as the usual baubles. You can sometimes see last year’s baubles cheap at this time of year. I also do a lot of artificial work, so I am already starting to make up my artificial garlands and wreaths. If there is anything at all that I can help with just give me a shout.
