All the very best. Keep us posted on how you are doing during your course. It is a good idea to offer to work for free in a shop to get experience during your course. I did that and was taught just as much as I was learning at college. It can also lead to getting a paid job..........getting a wage.........they were the good old days before I had a shop of my own.

In at the deep end

Well I've now been at college for a week and a half and I had my first day of work experience (at Jane Packer, New Cavendish Street) today. What with the travelling to London, the physical work involved and everything being totally new, I'm completely shattered, but loving every minute. Just hope I build up some stamina soon, I've never worked so hard. And the kids still wanted a hot meal when I finally got home - the cheek of it!! Thanks to everyone here who encouraged me...

The day was brilliant, the girls there were so nice and helpful, and in between the usual bucket and vase (they were huge!) washing which you'd expect, plus dismantling large displays back from an event, they showed me how to wrap a bouquet in their style. I did a few and they seemed pleased. Got a good report at the end of the day anyway even though I've never done anything like this before. They said I can go back next Wednesday, so hopefully if I do OK I can work a day a week until the Christmas holiday when I might even be useful to them over the busy period if I can get up to speed. Just shows its worth asking for an opportunity...

You lucky devil I would kill for experience like that, have also started the C&G level2 course part time at night school last week, but can't afford to give up part time real job so have to make do with hopefully getting some work experience coming up to christmas in florist a little way away from me if she keeps her word As welll it would be a bit too far for me to come one day a week
