Honestly - nothing to worry about.
I am chuckling away reading all your messages. Loved the 'terror torial'! Tee hee! I promise I wasn't checking up on anyone. I was just interested as to how all of this works. Nearly there with my assignment. At least the written part. Then all I need to do is the five drawings and the costing up / costing down! Rahhhh! ![]() I need another cuppa!

Hi Vee
Some say you need skin like a crocodile to survive the world of floristry so anything you get thrown at you round here will surely help to achieve that. Try and imagine someone who has just had funeral flowers done for them and wasn't quite happy with them. They might log on here and pose a similar question...then walk into their florist saying..."I asked lots of other florists and they told me you did it all wrong!" Not the sort of thing we're here for hence why direct answers are not always offered immediately

Do also be aware for your assignment that not all funeral directors take very good care of the flowers we deliver!! They can be delievered in perfect condition, however many things can happen, such as droppages, falling off the coffin, all sorts!! Oh and sometimes you have to work on the actual coffin with the body in it, if it is a special tribute!!!!!

One of our local funeral directors asks us not to make the tributes to high as he says they don't fit in the hearse on top of the coffin otherwise. Don't know if that is standard or not? Perhaps it's just a small hearse? The other thing is we only deliver to funeral directors when we have two funerals at different ends of the island at the same time or on one of the outer islands. Usually when that is the case for us (outer island funerals) we put the tributes up to the mortuary and the undertaker picks up the tributes with the remains. On the mainland we usually deliver straight to the church and very occasionally to the family home(only by customer request and after we have checked that the family is happy with that). As burials are most common on Orkney Island (we don't have a crematorium and it cost quite a bit to take the remains to Inverness to have them cremated) we also have services held in the cemeteries themselves. In this instance again we normally either put the tributes to the mortuary or make arrangements either for the undertaker to collect them or us to deliver it to them. As someone else pointed out the weight of the water in the oasis should keep it from sliding but also that rubberised non slip mat works wonders as well.
I don't know if this is normal or not but up here baskets of flowers made like a double ended spray are becoming more and more popular for funerals as many people seem to like the idea of uplifting them after the service and giving them to services that have been involved with the care of the person such as Mc Millan ward etc. rather than see them go to waste in a grave yard. |
