Hey Rosa Alba
I'm beginning to think that the retired person might be the best option. Then the staff (including me) can concentrate on what we should be doing (the flowers) and not watching the clock because it's almost time to go out on delivery. I suppose that way, if last-minute stuff comes in and it isn;t worth getting the driver in, then those staff members who actually like deliveries can hop in and go. I think I'm talking myself into this now...

hello ally we do the same as rosa.. three part time drivers, two days each. I find it works really well and it's great at busy times to have three drivers to rope in for the busy week Our drivers are retired/ early retired and all have had prior experience which I have found to be quite important to ensure they can find their way round quickly enough.
We lease a van with the exception of my recent van 'problems' I would still recommend that option, but get your driver to sign a contract saying they are responsible for it, and any points, fines etc they incure will be go straight to them.

ha ha ha,,,I am Rosa's evil twin sister,,I too have a large millstone around my neck!!

I agree 100% about the driver bit,,mums are not that suitable cos of the school hours and holidays and kids have nasty habit of being poorly just when you have shedloads of deliveries!! The more mature del person is best!! I have 2 drivers who do 3 days a week each,,separate delivery staff are a must and very useful in shop when they have completed dels and you are busy,,,which you will be..oh yes you will,,best of luck.

Hi Ally, good luck, re driver as long as you know how long the deliveries should take, just keep your eye on how long they do take, (know what I mean?) also the route they plan to take!! I would always prefer the driver not to be a florist but at least capable of answering phones, stripping flowers, & wrapping a bunch, it`s a way of keeping them part of the team as from experience if they only deliver the girls in the shop think the driver is getting an easy ride!! But what do I know!! Hey Ho I`m back on the road at the moment been a month starting to do my conkers in!! Well falling back on my office work but that`s another story.
