Hi everyone,

I'm confused!!

I really hope you can help me. I am a window dresser by trade but have been asked to make a floral arrangement and I really need some advice.

I have a 15" oasis heart and would like to make a based heart, covering the base with roses (Sweet Akito). My question is, do you know approx how many roses I will need to do this? I will also be adding a spray to the side so I won't be covering the entire thing.

Being a window dresser by trade, I haven't a huge amount of experience with estimating how many flowers I'll need. I really hope you can offer some advice!!

hi nicola, there was a thead done on this a while ago by apple (another member) but i am rubbish at finding things, have a search around and you could find your answer. Personally i could not tell you exactly how many but it will work out expensive.

Can you give us florists any window dressing tips??

just found it, 120 head of medium headed roses for 17" heart so you will need slightly less. Do you have to use roses because they wont last long and they will cost you a fortune?

The lady I am doing the arrangement for has requested roses but I understand what you mean about the quantity and cost. It is a lot of money! Perhaps I should suggest some alternatives to her.

you could maybe do it in silks and then she could reuse it again and again!! Literally this would only last her a week if that if the hot weather returns. highly unlikely i know but if it does

re window tips, have you any ideas you could share re themes or fundemental principles?? Am feeling so uncreative at the moment and i used to do nice windows as well...

hi nicola and welcome, if you have a look in albums then the heart i made is there to give you an idea. Mine was bevelled so used more roses than if you weres putting the flowers flat to the heart frame but id still say you would need about 80 to base it like this. Another idea maybe would be to cover the base in moss,sisal or feathers and do a rose spray on it or make a row of roses to make a smaller heart shape near the outside edge?

Oh you are welcome I am also a window dresser. but I crossed over to be a florist some years back I love -love windows... let talk window!!!!
But as for your heart it will work out very expensive do you have to use roses?

If you do end up using the roses, give them a good spray with 'clear life' it will get a few more days out of them. Can make them look a little glossy if overdone, but sometimes that's not a problem
