Why didn't I think if this before
Hi guys,
I am another new addition today and am pretty new to floristry and forums too. I took a C&G college course in floristry last year after talking about it for too many years while sitting at an office desk. My confidence was certainly not high by the end of the course but over the last few months I have had occassion (mainly sad with family funerals) to use my new skills and enjoy it lots more. I am now working part time (office wise) and looking to get some florist shop experience. In the meantime I have two family weddings this year which I am hoping to do the bouquets and decorations for. I have been searching the web for the best place to obtain flowers from and have taken a few visits previously to NCGM so it would be great to hear from home workers as to who are the best suppliers. So I know I have lots to learn any advice from you guys on gaining experience, suppliers, etc would be perfect. Thanks |

Hi Little L nice to meet you. If you look down the forums you will see that there is specially one for home workers. You'll find others just like you in there who start of working from home until they can get a foothold in the profession. You will also meet lovely people like tree who run a business from home. Tree is right you will get lots of help and information from this site. I don't know how florists managed without it! It's the best thing since sliced bread, well since chip butties at least.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I am in Hertfordshire although also spend a lot of time in Surrey due to my other half. I have sought out and visited a few of the local wholesalers whilst I was at college but they never seemed to helpful maybe it was a bad day for them. Is it going to be hard for me to obtain flowers and materials without having a trade name/account?

It might be difficult buying flowers. There was a thread about that recently in the home workers forum. It is a catch 22 situation.

I have only completed level 1 and am hoping to go back for level 2 next year as it seems to have a bigger focus on modern designs and increase my scope. I also attended a couple of shorter course at other agricultural colleges locally. I am certainly going to check out the previous threads to see what information I can get from this site.
Obtaining flowers is my main concern, for the funeral work I have done this has not been a problem as I visited New Covent Garden Market and obtained everything easily but weddings are a bit more specific. Any suggestions for a Brown Wedding - mainly roses? or a filler? |

When is the wedding little L? You can get Safari all year which is a lovely rich brown filler. That would look lovely complimented with a nice cream rose like vendella.
Good for you doing level 1 and yes you will learn a lot more doing level 2 so go for it. Good luck.

Hi Little L, the wholesalers I know are in SE London/Nth Kent, so don't reckon will be much use to you. There's also a company in Scotland called Flowerexperts/Henry Doys who you can buy online from
