Just a short note to say hi and tell a little bit about myself. I live in Northern Ireland and am very new to the florist world and am presently trying to escape a job I have been in for about 20yrs, and finally take the plunge to do something I have always loved.I have read a lot of your posts on here and think its sounds a great site with lots of friendly people, so I hope to pick your brains and beg some help from time to time if you don't mind! First off how do I get onto the Barensden website to begin ordering from them, as they were recommended to me. I have so far relied on another source for my flowers but I would like to get my own supplier and because at the moment I am only starting out with out my own premises I find it hard to get someone to supply me as my orders as not big enough yet. Can anyone offer some advice? Last edited by lylee; 01-06-2007 at 09:10 PM. |

Welcome to you. Don't know the company youre talking about but if youre in Ireland then try RACH...she is one of the oracles. Enjoy the banter

Welcome Lylee...
Yes it can be difficult starting a new business, especially with perishables such as these. You want to carry some stock just to show you mean business, but you don't want to be selling old stuff and you don't want to throw it away either. Every situation is different, but i might come down to accepting that you won't be making money for a while. You'll be wanting to build up your reputation and customer base and this will all come at a price. Think of it as investing in your future, much like spending money on advertising. Even if you find a good supplier and offer to pay a little more just to get the stuff is probably better than having to accept something that is not quite right. In time you will build up enough trade to be able to negotiate better prices. It's probably unrealistic to expect a wholesaler or anyone else to incur extra costs to help you build your business, it just won't happen and i suspect you realize that anyway. I would just talk to a good wholesaler and convince them you are serious and see what you can work out. It's good to talk eh!

Thanks so much for all the advice, makes me feel a bit less stressed about it all and also helps me think that I'll get there eventually
