I have been lurking round here for ages and thought it time to say "Hello"
I have to admit I am no longer a 'proper' florist.
Having moved to the top of the country, I decided to scale down and work from home doing purely silks
I have a website and seem to be getting by okay. I used to do lots of silk bouquets in the shop, and couldn't bear to give up and vegetate.
Anyway, hope I can still lurk and do a bit of posting

do you get much call for silks?

Originally from Burnley, but have been up here in Scotland for last couple of years.
I used to do lots of wedding shows and used silks for a large part of the displays, then had girls actually wanting silks for their weddings. In recent years I had bouquets in wedding dress shops and found I sold as many silks as fresh, and now I just do silks.
Funny thing is lots of the scottish themed ones go way down south. Tartans and thistles go down well in USA as well.
It was odd doing them via email and photos in the beginning, but it seems to work well.
Do you do much with silks at all?

we hardly sell any.

But to be honest i dont really have that many in the shop.

I have like fish bowls with twisted callas in, and bits like that, but whatever i have in is always either the wrong colour or size etc and i cant stock everything, so i concentrate on fresh and plants, but if someone does want something artificial, i will make it to their requirements if they give me a couple of days notice.

I know what you mean about wrong colours etc. but I had a very big shop, and so had the room to display loads off. I used to have the back wall of the shop filled with ready made displays, and managed to sell loads of those. In winter I filled the dead hours just making displays up.(Small market town,LOTS of dead hours)
We had a wedding dress shop next door but one, and she used the bouquets in her window, so that brought me customers.

hello there floralpride i'm potty from cheshire hows the weather up there i was emailing my unc yesterday hes up near thurso even futher than you hey! we don't do silk i can't stock alot shops tiny and very damp was expecting it to flood this week but we seemed to have been extreamly lucky!!!
