Hello everyone,
I'm a new 'mature' student on c&g level 2 only 4 weeks into the course & loving it! My career so far has been working with children who have special needs, but I have always harboured a desire to work as a florist. I feel I know very little about it all, but doing my flower idents this weekend, my knowledge bank is beginning to improve! May ned to pick your experienced brains sometimes! I'm single Mum to a little girl who will be 8 next week. Helen x |

hello all you flower freaks
i have been in the trade for 18 years and god do i love it!!! i am currently working in a shop but am determined to have my own empire one day, no matter how many people wanna stand in my way! (my current employer is not one of them, shes great!) why do some employers try and stop us from reaching our dreams? i am currently going through an employment tribunal as i was sacked for doing some flowers for a friend outside of work (no profit made!) and an issue regarding discount/perks. all by someone who had been in the trade for 6 months (he bought the shop i was working in and was formally a journalist) if any one can help let me know and i will fill in the gory details.

Hi Sam, I too, was older when I did my Advanced course. I was 39 - 40 when I passed mine. But keep at it you can do it. I will tell you to get as many events as possible with photographic evidence to support your work. Also look at different cultures like weddings and funeral tributes and the reasons behind why they have them. It will help a lot, you can buy magazines on Asian weddings for instance and also check out the web sites. Well good luck with your course and don't forget its only for a year which goes very fast.
bye for now carol |

Hi
we're a new business in Edinburgh, just started in August. Pretty encouraging start so far but, just like everyone else, we're a bit quiet just now. Looking forward to Christmas and then a few days off! (first in months!)

Hi everyone. my name is Tanya Dean, i'm 25 years old and i've been doing floristry for nearly 10 years.
I started when i just turned 16 on a youth training scheme. This meant that i had a full time job but did one day a week at college, and the wage was very little. I stayed at college for 2 years and passed my city & guilds nvq level 1 and 2. I am currently living in essex with my partner Rob, and we are hoping to get our own florist in a year or so......i can't wait! I've had it with working for people xxx |
