newbie
Hiya, I'm a full time florist in Glasgow in a busy, stylish shop. I am 27 years old, married and we have a son who is 2 and a half.
I guess this forum must be fairly new, and I hope lots more people join, it would be great to get other people's takes on the industry. In May my colleagues and I are going to Holland on a buying trip and to visit Metz Headquarters and maybe Waterdrinker, I'll keep you posted on how we get on. Perhaps Gringo or someone else in Holland has some suggestions for things to do or see? We arrive in Amsterdam on a Sunday afternoon and have all day Monday there. My colleague who is 51 is determined to enjoy a "special" cake in a coffee shop but I just want to see FLOWERS! |

If you are staying Amsterdam you will have plenty to see and do for a couple of days. Plenty of special " bakers " and wacky bakky shops, but Amsterdam is just great to wander around as well. loads of terraces & bars, plenty of shops open on Sundays. You could also look at taking a day trip to the " keukenhof" which are the annual flower gardens in Lisse (30 mins from Amsterdam) heres a link : http://www.keukenhof.nl/![]() Waterdrinker is an amazing place, and when you are walking around, take into account all you see is less than half of what he has in stock on a daily basis ![]() |

Good to see new people on the forum. Glad to see that you have good taste with the Harley. I'm actually going out today to look at the Honda VTX 1300S. not quite sure about the Arsenal season tickets did you work in flowers before the shop ? or was it a completely new venture ? |

No totally new
Cathie has always loved flowers..I have worked in IT since 1979 Contract IBM System Tester and Cathie worked as legal secretary. She got made redundant with a nice payoff. She used the money wisely and did the NCF Part II at Guildford University full time for a year (2004/5) and came out with a distinction. This little unit came up very close to home very reasonable rent so instead of working from home, sunk my money into this venture. Battling against very established (25 years) florists in town. Winning by quality of flowers all grade 1 and service...I will deliver upto 10pm which no other florist does around here. Can offer that as work for myself so I am own boss!! Just lost my IT contract in london as work moved to Mombai India, so annoying cathie in the shop and doing the deliveries and knocking on office doors.
Oh lovely warm sunny day here today cheers |

Not a florist
Hello to all you florists out there! My name is Baan as you can see in my very original name! A bit about myself: Dutch flower wholesaler no living and working from our base in Hereford. Living with my partner Sarah and our two children reece 18 months and rhiannon 6 weeks! Moved over to this country in August 2001 and we operate a 'flying dutchman' wholesale operation from our base. We currently have two refridgerated lorries selling flowers from south Birmingham to South Wales and all joining areas. We have 4 staff including myself and my partner Sarah has just opened her second shop in Cardiff.
We could do with a good chatforum for our industry and we are always looking to help people out. For some more background info about myself and my business www.baanflowers.co.uk. Looking forward to helping anyone with their flower questions! |

good to see a fellow wholesaler joining the forum. How are you finding things at the moment ? I have customers all around where you are based, and the last few weeks with all the bank holidays & school holidays have not helped in the least. Hopefully now it's may, that things will pick up with so wedding work. Groetjes Gringo. ![]() |
