Ooooh Ian why do we do this to ourselves? Have tried many times to dye roses not very sucessful. Problem is that if they have the slightest blemish it shows
you could try black bacarra and black ink to get the black and, well, perhaps just black bacarra for the burgundy. Otherwise tell ya bride that really white is very in just now!! Be interested to hear how you get on.Breezy ![]() |

Hi Breezy
Thanks for the tips, I'm now starting to regret the conversation with the bride and her mother and her aunt.........etc....... As I have never dye flowers before where would I get the dye from? I suppose that my local supplier would have it?? Take Care Ian |

Ian...I don't want to dampen your creative spirit here. That is something that should be kept alive, but do you think you've created a rod for your back here?
There are so many natural colours available. Is there not one that would do the job? Is it a case of the bride having chosen her material colour and now wanting to find a flower that matches exactly. Don't know why they don't choose the flowers first as you can then get material in any shade you like! I've had this so many times it's not funny any more. Usually try and explain that if they match the flowers to the material, it will not show up in photographs, so end up going for a contrast rather than settling for something 'similar' that may just look 'wrong'. Still not sure what your particular situation is though! |

Hi Ian,
Oh dooo be careful with dyed flowers for your bride. Suggest an alternative because if its a wet day, the dye may run. You don't want a law suit on your hands after all your hard work ![]() |

Hi Guys
Thanks for the advice. The bride is a strong willed caracter just look her mother, anunt, 3 sisters (bridesmaids). All of them were at the 1st discussion. Her colour theme is burgundy and ivory, her main flower being Cala lillies. She is worried about the shade of the burgundy. Any suggestions? I am starting to think I shouldn't have said yes to this what can only be explained as a royal wedding. There choice of words not mine!!!! Regards Ian |

ok Ian..lets get to the bottom of this. You say she is worried about the shade of burgundy. In what way? Does she want it to match the material exactly? If that is the case, then you will have an impossible task. You've only got to fire up something like Photoshop to find out how many different shades of burgundy you can produce. If you commit yourself to doing what it appears you are trying to do, then you have a 1/1000 chance of getting it perfect and you will no doubt be refunding the price of the wedding in due course. I've done quite a few weddings with burgundy calas and have never had any complaints about the colour not matching. Such is mother nature, and wouldn't it be a boring world without some diversity. Burgundy is Burgundy, whether it be pale, medium or dark, it is still burgundy and as such will blend in with the colour scheme. Of course, if money is no object and you have a 'blank cheque' then i dare say there are ways of achieving the 'impossible' with a little help from professionals.

My recommendation :
Black painted grand prix. if you need to buy dye for a 1 off job, it wont be cheap. Proper flower dye is not cheap ! If you get it from Holland, you can guarantee it has been drunk up correctly, and they have used roses that are laid dry for 24 hours immediately after cutting, to drink up the dye properly. You cannot use just any growers, and guarantee to get the right colour or product. |
