I'm sorry to say but in a funeral piece is the only other place i'd put it, other than the bin that is.

Sorry that wasn't very helpful, Try salal if you want some cheap green for funeral pieces that will last for ages.

Leather will keep for ages in the unopened bag. Helps if you have a cold room. Once opened you can reseal the bag and that will help but if you're not using it reasonably quick, you'll have to give it a drink, just like any other greenery. I used to buy that by the box for m/d,v/d and it was still fine over a week later.
You do need to check it when buying. Occasionally you'll have loads of black leaves amongst it (send it back!). I much preferred phoenix with h/t's, just looks nicer, but sometimes when you need to give it away, leather is the option. I can understand how it seems naff when you see it all day, every day and every supermarket bunch has it, but not all of your customers are seeing it every day, so to them it's just 'greenery'

I Use to hate leather leaves as well... Didn't use it for 3yrs, but am getting very fond of it now... Let me just say, I only use it for funeral spray's...and in wreath, if I have to...But find it cuts down time quiet a bit...

Thanks for all your replies.

I use it to edge a lot of my wreaths. Alternatively you could try hard ruscus. It is quite a good filler with a reasonably uniform shape if you cut it down. For larger pieces like coffin sprays I use Phoenox palm. Terrific for giving the feeling of largesse and a touch of the exotic.
However I do also use leather for the cheap posies that folk want for the cemetery as it fills up well and gives your basic shape. The same as everything in life, it all has it's place ( even if that means the bin for some of you)
