not a case of using another rose instead, I just pretend heaven rose doesn't exist and find other ways of getting the colour into the bouquets!

I like heaven too its sooo cute and dislike sweet akito..there's not enough petals in it if a few are bruised! though I don't like akito really either, I just don't like the shape particularly

Hehehehe I don't like Akito either Sarah, I think it's always such crap value for money for such a pokey little rose .

I find Heaven bruised easy too. Love the rose but have stopped using it for wedding work for that reason.

Sorry for late reply Rosa...a carmen I usually do the day before the wedding (mostly cos cold glue takes an age to set!!) and put it in a plastic bag I have blown up with CO2, knot the end of and pop it in the fridge! Lasts brilliantly, have had people tell me that keeping it like that it has lasted just under a week before petals start marking or drying out. If it is to be fitted into a cornucopia or other bridal bqt I make sure I construct the bqt in 2 sections which allows me to attach the carmen at a later time once it has been well chilled (usually morning of the wedding).

I agree with you though about akito & sweet akito...NIGHTMARE!! HAd a couple of women in who were doing a wedding and asked us to get the flowers, they wanted both Sweet Akito & Akito! We warned them about how easily they marked but they had made up their minds. I helped one lady to her car with the 100 roses and she preceeded to put them in the back seat of the car, not lengthways along the seat but from back to front with the rose heads resting against the front seat!!!! I could guarantee that in a few hours they would not be looking too good! Perhaps should display this story in the shop as a precautionary tale for brides who want unqualified people to do their flowers without training of how to handle them!

ANYWAY...the cold glue method means they do not need to be touched too much before constructing the carmen rose. Have found they mark less if they are directly out of the chiller rather than been left to warm slightly.

God, you lot are so clever and knowledgable!!!! I've admired them in the Cowling book but never had the opportunity to try and make one. Would it be impossible to explain?
In the book it shows wiring each individual petal. Now some of you are talking about glue.
Who's brave enough to try to put it into words?

I hate akito too, such a rubbish shape to work with, never looks 'neat'. I think they look pretty cheap too when you put it next to something like a sweet avalanche.

i agree akito is small etc, but the colour is great, because it usually goes well with the brides dress..

i find avalanche to green, marrousia to cream etc etc....
