Online Discussion Forum for Florists
This is a discussion on carmen rose within the Floral Design Centre forums, part of the Public Forums category; has anyone ever made a carmen rose from a black baccara? I'm wondering if they're the right type ...

Black Baccarat works beautifully, did one last year as a corsage for a mother of the bride...will try and find a piccy and post it sometime this evening!
Have also found that any rose will make a carmen, its just the mechanics that need to change. Choices range from cellotaping the wire to the back of the petal or putting a blob cold glue on the petal, putting the looped wire on it and then wait for it to set, can do a load of these and give them time to dry while you get on with something else! It's a bit fiddly and at first i didn't think they would hold, but was very surprised at how strong the bond was between the wire and glue. Hope this helps.

oooo, thanks for the replies guys- that was quick! just had a consultation with the bride and she loves the carmen rose (I made a SUPER quick one out of two faces roses!) yay- Its going to be the first one I've done for a wedding! She wanted the edging to be more "wacky" than just greenery so I'm going to use the oasis bead and wire collar in silver and then bind wire around the whole stem as a handle. Chris, I will try the cold glueing method, I cheated and quickly pinned them in today!

That's interesting. I've always avoided roses with soft petals - all the whites, a lot of the pinks etc - cos I've been worried they wouldn't hold up. We did one with Heaven for a wedding fair once and it looked really poorly by the end of the day. Do you make them in the morning of the wedding Chris? We do almost all of our wedding make up the day before.
My all time favourite for a carmen is Vendella . |

What you use instead then PMF? I quite like Heaven, nice shape, easy to work with, not really had a prob with it bruising. Have a particular loathing for Sweet Akito, after suffering an all SA wedding last year at the height of the heatwave, that's a devil for bruising!
