The best thing about showers is that they always look good in the wedding photos. Unless the photographer is on the ball (which he should be!) you can end up with a nice side view of a hand tied.
I try not to get too involved with things being 'dated'. As much as we may be doing the same thing over and over for years, from the brides point of view, this is the first one she's had in her hands. From a time point of view, it doesn't really make a lot of difference. I can just about do a shower in foam as quick as a hand tied with the binding, so i tend to quote much the same figure. |

We must be still in the back sticks we wouldn't get same money for both folk here have the peception of hand ties being cheap and showers more expensive and that is how all of the florists here charge I love making showers and am delighted when a bride asks for one

hang Ian, I had an exact replica of Diana's bouquet for my wedding in 1991, although it was very popular back then, I must admit I still love making them, but I would say half of our ladies want them then the rest go for more modern, (well one of our Brighton customers is having a civil ceromony on the beach during gay pride and he wants to be in fancy costume like those 2 man in dresses on Little Britain , the ones who keep saying that "I', m a Lady" this should be a fun one!

I don't enjoy making shower bouquets but more and more brides are asking for them. The handtied is less requested nowadays, brides are wanting their bouquets to be more unique and unusual- you can get that with shower bouquets (the modern ones i'm talking about). I think handtieds have pretty much had their day..for now! I can see how the modern showers of grouped flowers such as phalenopsis, gloriosa, vanda orchids are increasingly popular. Intertwined with interesting bits and bobs like beads, rolled petals, and diamante they really are the modern brides choice.
I think handtieds are becoming less popular now as they just aren't that special anymore- supermarkets sell gift handtieds, marks and spencer sell biedermier (spelling!) posies- a shower bouquet takes real skill to make well, it should be beautifully handcrafted and individual. A machine certainly couldn't make one. You could show your aunty how to make a handtied in an afternoon and they'd do an alright job of it, not everyone can make the complicated constucted bouquets. Wow, I couldn't stop myself typing there!! Sorry- that went on a bit. Jo |
