Treen needs some help!

I could do with a little input .......

We have a lovely customer who comes in once or twice a month. He usually strolls in and say's "do me a hundred pound bouquet Mate".... he then say's "stick some of that in it and some of that blue stuff over there". Blah, blah....
Then he leaves it to us to make it up to value.
He ends up with a mish mash of all sorts and we make it in to a G/W. Some times he orders all mixed lillies and on occasion all strelizia.

He has gone away and it's his wifes' birthday tomorrow. He has left us £150 and said "do whatever.... something really special". Knowing that she's used to getting such a big bouquet and such a mixed selection it's a bit difficult to do him something I would term as "tasteful".

I have a full stock of flowers but just can't get any inspiration!
What shall we give him?

What about a mix of lillies and strelitzia then? If he's had the two before then you know they are liked? OR maybe more of a tropical mix with heliconia and protea's etc? Lovelt palm etc..

Does it have to be a bouquet? Can you do an arrangement in a nice pot? Or a lovely bq in a vase?

For me, tasteful would be roses, lilies, orchids and nice foliages, maybe with protea, anthurium, delphs, hydrangea, big bold expensive things that you can really go to town with. Obviously dependant what you have in stock .

good lord Treen...this is your CHANCE to wow the lady off her feet!! I mean think about it...he's left you with 150pnds...TO DO WHATEVER YOU WANT!!! Me? I'd use the opportunity to outdo anything he's ever 'choosen' himself (ie something blue and a bit of these!)...you are a florist...a flower-creating, artsy-fartsy, full-up-to-you-ears-in-stock-florist...ooohhhh the possibilities....

yeah a lovely big arrangement...you could do something much more impressive in oasis. You might even convert him to arrangements, unless his wife is good with flowers I doubt she makes much out of a £100 bouquet or has enough vases hehe

That's about where I'm at Maple! I really would love to go for it ( within the restrictions of my stock) but I don't want to go down the mixy, mixy root and it seems a lot of money to stick to just a couple of varieties.

I could do an arrangement but think he and she will be expecting BIG and I just find TOO big in arrangements a bit of a nightmare for the home.

I can't remember if he's had a hand tied before but think that would be better.

I have tones of beautiful roses ... all colours, some fab pink anthiriums loads of foliage, calla's, tones of lillies... all colours.... don't have any tropical + all the basics and fillers.

have you not got a lovely big vase that could take up a bit of the money say £50? and then make a really tastefull arrangement, you could fill the glass vase with limes etc to make it a bit more funky and then i would use bamboo, anthurium, protea, snake grass, aso, fats, and then put unopen lillies in so that she has something left to open, palm leaves. Or you could do two vases that join each other with grasses with one bigger than the other (i know what i mean - not sure if you lot could visualise). Or you could put a vase in a low glass dish and do an arrangement in the bottom and an arrangement in the top.

I know your dilema though, these are the customers we all want constantly but when we get them they really make us work creatively cause its gotta look worth it!

This is the real dilemma....... my business head is saying keep it to what you know he's used to ........ he's always happy with that. My florist head is saying go wild and arty and really created something fab.

what if I do him something arty and he hates it? He's so lovely he'll probably be fine but it would be a risk.

(so what is a "G/W" then?)

I think I'd do either a HUGE hand-tie, one that makes your fingers hurt!! I'd go for a 'structured' look, starting with the delphs that rosa mentioned in the centre/at the top, then work my way 'down' with the flowers, clustering roses of different colours in bunches of 5 or 6 with the hydrangeas-if you have them-that rosa mentioned inbetween the roses, the callas 'hugging' the base of the delphs, oh, don't forget something TALL and twigg-y (maybe willow?) inbetween the delphs (don't have delphs? use the lilies!stick to one colour on those tho), not too sure about those anthuriums...I always have a problem with them, they usually end up spiraling slowly around to the 'bottom' of the bq, overlapping each other...and to top it off, use LONG ivy trails 'sprouting' from it all and wound around the entire thing, held in place with aluminum wire. I think I'd finish it off with BIG leaves, got any aspidistra? Aralia? Anthurium? just plonk the big ones under it to give it a nice finish.
This is sooooo gonna make your hands hurt!!
Have fun whatever you do!

by clustering the roses you can get more 'money' in without it looking like you just threw it together!
