Every year our town has a window competition for gala week which is around 15th June. Every year I take part but never come anywhere even though I think my window is best, I dont think i know the right people somehow....anyway it hasnt put me off taking part so I thought I would brainstorm to see if anybody has any good ideas. My window isnt that big about 2 and a half meters long and only about half a meter deep. The theme this year is "Hollywood Movies"

any ideas would be appreciated

We have a window comp each year too, and like yourself never come anywhere, and looking at the winners each year am sure it's fixed! As they say it's not what you know it's who you know!

As for ideas, am thinking film reels and stars. Film reel could be mae from aspidistra leaves with black threaded ribbon down either side and then little movie clips glued onto it. A friend of mine did that for a comp piece and it just looked stunning. Just think lots of glitz and glamour...perhaps a bit kitch with feathers and things?

Oooh we have a window comp every xmas. Got 2nd last year but I was robbed!!! ( If i say so myself! Actually...quite a few people agreed! ) I had 70 clear glass bubbles all suspended at different heights, diamond shaped things all suspended and glass test tubes with white roses sprayed with some snow and glitter. At the back had a plastic mesh type stuff with blue fairy lights. Took me 3 days putting it together and nights upon nights of attaching clear thread to the baubles with nail varnish! End result... bubbles and flowers floating! Im sorry but that window was stunning!! No one passed without commenting! What won I hear you cry.. a window with some cotton wool and a couple of bought polar bears stuck in it!

Hollywood movies...hmmm I see red roses..petals...lots of glitzy things... hollywood sign in the background...

hey apple i have a pic in my pc in the shop which i will upload in the next few days for you. am mad tom so give me a couple of days. Someone at college did it and they had reels of photos hanging from the ceiling, i have actually seen this done since and loads of other good ideas, cant describe it but hold fire until you see this cos i think you may pick something up from it ps am at home now so that is why not doing immediately for you.

was just speaking to the girl i work with and shes gone and burst my bubble a bit. She says they may want you to pick a hollywood movie and do that. What do yous think? Mind you, last year the theme was nursery rhymes and the one that came second done hansel and gretal, they have assured me that there is different judges this year! The theme is "Hollywood Movies"

you could do follow the yellow brick road - is that hollywood? you could get them red shiny shoes and do arrangements out of them and tin hats etc etc... you could also have a yellow brick road and a heart. oh my god im getting carried away now...

lots of breakfast yummy things and a really posh setting and do 'breakfast at tiffanies'
or three arrangements depicting 'the good the bad and the ugly'
or find a mel gibson lookalike and just stand him in the window naked would be good:
or the same with mr depp that definately is my favourite i would come up to see that and camp outside your shop
