Help Needed - round arrangements on a vase

Hi

We are doing round 'ball-like' arrangements on top of vases for a wedidng this weekend. We've done them a few times with no problems, using our (narorw) vases.
This time the bride had her own vases, and against my better judgement, I agreed to do them on top of her vases. We've just had the vases brought in to us, and the tops are a lot wider than ours.
So I've tried one out and the oasis ball, when I press it down on the vase, was fine for a while, but once I've finished greening it up, the oasis has basically come away from the vase, so the bottom bit that was inside the vase has come away. I think this has happened becuase the vase is so much bigger than ours, so the ball has broken away.

I don't know if any of this makes sense, probably not, but what I want to know is - how can I securely attach the ball to the vase? Usually, as I said, we just push the ball on top and it holds fine, but that's not going to work this time - so help!

Any ideas greatfully received as I'm more than a bit worried about this now.

Thanks

Gemma

Thanks for replying, no the vases are a really odd size and not big ENOUGH to fit a bowl on. They are in-between our narrow vases and our larger lily vases, which we do arrangements on by fitting a bowl on top.

Any other suggestions welcome though, in case it doesn't work out. Why do I do this to myself

When I have done these before we've just sat them up top, they are too fiddly to transport on the vases anyway. So we usually place them on the vase at the venue. I just make up the sphere with the foliage and flowers, and the weight of the arrangement will keep it in place, especially if it is a wideish vase

Am I right in thinking the ball is slipping down too far into the vase?

If so, could you put two long wooden skewers crossing through it to hold it on top? The sort you would use for a Barbeque?

No, it's not falling down, it's falling off leaving the bit that was plugging the vase behind. This only happened when I was faffing around with it, so it may not happen again, but I'm too worried that it'll happen in the middle of the reception or when they move them around in the evening so I'm hoping for another solution.

The 3" candle holders fit in really well - I haven't tried itwith th4 oasis yet, but in theory it should work. Only problem is I'v only got 7 of them so I'm praying that my wholesaler will have them in stock and can drop a bag off with me tomorrow. If not I don't know what I'll do.
