Help please!

My Bridezilla was going to do her own table arrangements and has decided at the last minute that perhaps it wasn't such a good idea. What a surprise! Anyway, she's bought the 70cm martini glasses which she wants filled with the chrystal gel stuff and baccarat roses . I've not used it before but just read the packet and it says not suitable for cut roses. Is this right? Think they're going to look rubbish anyway because they're too tall and you wont see whats actually in them.

This is the one with a £400.00 budget and wanted it all mocked up for inspection beforehand! Moron.

I think the problem with the gel and roses is if the heads are touching the gel, the petals can go soggy pretty quickly (unfortunately baccara are the worse for showing up water damage) I think if you are doing them on the morning they should be fine, i'd worry about them if you made them any longer in advance though. Sarah's given good advice, do a practice run first!.

Its always the people with a small budget that are the pickiest, i've never had to do a mock up though- think I must have the gift of the gab! People who are that picky make you too scared to add any extra "designer flourishes" you may think will look good as you're making the designs, which means they'll get less of a service in the end because they've put a dampener on creativity!

Thats going to be me elbow deep in gel next week then! It is going to look poo though isn't it. You'll love this, she only wants three heads per glass. Oh dear dear dear. The guests are just going to see the base of the rose heads. Think I'll have to try and talk her out of it.

Sorry to say it Alice but it really does sound like a naff idea and i suspect she knows it which is why you've been given the job on the assumption that because you are a real florist you will be able to cast your magic wand and create a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Alice, I had this recently with a bridezilla who had blown us out for her 'friend' last year (wedding this Sept), she came crawling back to us a few weeks ago with these 70cm martini glass vases (see post on the other side) wanting them doing with arrangements in the top all white including roses and calla lilies, totally clueless as to the cost, after advice from other posters I went in just under £100 per table, I heard the thud as she fell off her chair, but she has paid her deposit on the hire of the vases now (to another company) so can't (read won't) compromise. Her fiance called a couple of days ago to say they couldn't afford us. This is one where I was actually glad we had lost the booking, felt whatever we did it wouldn't be right for her.

If your bridezilla won't pay for a mock up can you instead call her in to view the flowers the morning before the wedding, perhaps when she sees they look pants she will find some more cash to pay for you to make them better. Or if she really only wants 3 roses per vase could you float them in water with candles rather than using the gel stuff, or even just float the petals not the whole rose heads. You are totally right about the guests only seeing the arse end of the roses though, the pity is that some brides know exactly what they want and will not listen to the voice of reason or experience.

On the other hand if the wedding is only a week away she has little option but to go with you and you seem like a straight talkin kind of girl, have you tried putting your foot down and telling >her< what >you< are going to do, rather than you trying to accommodate her crappy ideas?

i think sometimes you need to take charge and be upfront, if you think its going to look awful tell her so, if she listens and accepts it you can both come up with something better, but if she decides this is what she wants after you have expressed your concerns, then its her problem, you can only do so much and we are not miracle workers, and when you do them and they look like crap, she cant say you didnt warn her against it,surely she would pay for a mock up of one of the vases, how tight can she be,
