wow! You guys have some awesome ideas and help thanks!!! I am thinking of doing an 'open evening' also nearer to Christmas. Sort of a launch christmas evening with mince pies and mulled wine - nothing too flash and your ideas will definitely come in handy! There is also a Christmas Fair in the town so I am trying to get in on that action too (although I seriously dont knoe when I am going to find the time to do that as well as run the shop!)

Hi melsmiff, Its a great time to open as you really do sell all sorts. This will be my first christmas too as a florist, but have done many in gifts. Its busy busy busy! Make sure you have some help too. Also be prepared for a big slump in January as this can be really depressing after such a good start!

Nothing quite like a baptism of fire! I opened just before Mothers Day. Oh my word. Had no idea it would be so busy! Topped up the coffers a bit which is what you need. You've obviously bought an established business so you should be well away. Best of Luck to you.

They seem to like minimal fresh wreaths, so we were mossed up by October and then they were all out on my lawn. Even the very large artificial ones sold out, they looked fantastic, the tacky ones with the pointsettias etc didn't sell very well, in the end we had a large 9ft tree in the window, and it was covered in posh flowers and baubles etc , bascially it was my stock room, everything was on the tree! customers were buying their decs from the tree, also I'm starting to spray twigs as that's what we ran out of Christmas week, as they look fantastic in bouquets. I'm afraid I'm like a bit kid at Christmas time, can't wait

why oasis and dish just make a small moss ball even cheaper we sold small ones with a moss ball base sprigs of wired holly and crappy plastic xmas roses for 2.99/4.99 this year we are putting them up to 3.99 to 5.99 then we also do holly grave arr in those plastic grave pots that slip in the hole in the ground just holly and spuce and few plastic roses 7.50 fresh flowers ones £10 just a few berries and spray cars in red sold tons of both around 400 wreaths (bought in fab ones 2.00 each) sold at 4.99 sold around 200 holly posies and 100 grave arrangements all pre-arranged in nov and early dec

Ah, yes, take care on the old free/cheap foliage offer, quite often it's just some old biddy who has had her eucalyptus/leylandii/whatever chopped down and is trying to offload it rather than pay for a skip to have it taken away properly.
