Got a right one here guys, it's making me feel sick just looking at the pic the bride has produced...

Bride is having a 5 tier stacked cake. She wants a floral garland running down the entire length of one side of the cake, plus a posy on the top. Cakes are 6", 8", 10", 12" & 14". Top and bottom tiers are fake - made out of iced polystyrene, the 8 & 10 are madiera and the 12" is fruit. Flowers she is having are white hydrangea, sweet avalanche roses & white lissy, no foliage anywhere.

I just can't see how you could attach a full length floral garland to one side of the cake, the weight of the flowers & wire just wouldn't stay, even if you stabbed into the cakes. Does anyone have any tips or advice.....?

i think i would maybe do the posy in roses then wire the others hydrangea and lizzy tightly together the old fashioned way and that way it shouldn't be too heavy i think it'd be a no go for the avalanche just too heavy unless you can add them futher down onto the cake as if it was in the garland

Here is a pic of what she wants. The flowers on this one look like silk. The cake woman has already refused to do sugar flowers cos it's too hard.

I'd definately do them in seperate wired posies that would be rammed into each tier. a bit of jiggery pokery and you could make them look like one long garland of flowers as the picture. I can't see how it would work any other way to get that effect when working with such heavy roses.

that is such a silk distastor!!!! had one like that at a wedding i did luckily didn't have to make it!!!

if the top one is polystyrene I would def stab wire ends od garland into it and I would also be tempted to arrange with cake lady about weighting it down somehow so the weight of the garland doesn't topple it. like potty said i would steer clear of avalnche apart from the top posy..have fun

I'm not really an expert on cakes at all, I tend to wing it!! I'd either anchor with fine wire or make the flowers round a thick bendable wire kind of like a garland. This is one of those times when an engineering degree comes in useful!! (I don't have one by the way as you can see from my answer!!)

mmmmmmm nice, I would sketch a whole new design that would work and explain to the bride how much nicer it would be and how it would be more effective.
