I wouldn't put from £35, because from experience you have a good chance of getting a bride who wants callas & roses then is shocked that it's around £100 then thinks you are taking the piddle.

I don't make a habit of turning business away, but once in a while you get a wedding who you know deep down is going to be more hassle than it's worth in which case I won't take on the contract. I would imagine that many of us have done the same thing on occasion.

As for price-driven wedding flowers, I will always work to a bride's budget, no matter how small or how big. If she only wants to spend £15 on her bouquet, I will come up with options for her. However, I won't price match if a bride comes to me and says "I've seen another florist who's charging x for the same bouquet, can you do the same". Sure, I'll explain the other florist might be using less flowers and more foliage and if she's happy with that I can take another look at the pricing, but that in my opinion what I have quoted for would be superior. At the end of the day, it's not just the raw materials that the bride is paying for, it's the service, quality and experience of the florist.

I do a guide price list too, along the same lines as Jo, it's useful for giving to the ones who wander in expecting you to drop everything and see them there and then, also weeds out some of the paupers who just can't afford us, also we are increasingly getting email enquries so it's helpful to have something to send back to them, our website is like a brochure already, lots of pics but no prices.

Yeh, see where you're coming from. Its similar here - we took on a series of roadshows because we thought it'd be good for future business. They were costed in a certain way and now client is a nightmare, wants additional work/equipment but won't pay and we probably won't end up making a decent profit on it. We offer value to our clients (when I change career to floristry will take this ethic with me) and this one's taking the p@*s. Can't tell her to get lost as so much riding on it for future business.
