Working from home. marketing and leasing a shop

Hi all,
God my week has been s**t so far still rockin out tho
I have been wondering if working from home is actually feasible at all...
Has anyone else had sucess with it? Anyone any tips on effective marketing?
I feel as though I have read all the books under the sun, tried things and not really had much response... any tips?

Today I decided I would investigate my local area and see if there are any gaps in the market shop wise.... however my next problem was, what is the best way to go about leasing a shop? All the websites I came across were for London and not really much help

Any advice my sweets?

Leasing a shop

You should try your local council they may have a list of leased shops.
My pal has just given up a tiny shop in Easter Road, Edinburgh. Do you have a web site...I found I get a lot of enq's thru that, and just leaflet the local area. Word of mouth is another good way of folk finding you, maybe put leaflets inlocal halls that cater for weddings and word will spread that way. I tried advertising in local papers with no response, on the radio only 3 people heard the ad.

Me again
You have the advantage working from home no overheads, like rent rates waste electric water etc...you pay that already...are you in a central area, have you registered with yell.com 1st year is usually free. Watch flower sites some are at it. Florist2Florist is a good site to register with. You may have heard all this before I apologise in advance if you have. Patway

Hi Patway,
Nice to meet you Thanks for replying.
Is it Charlies on Easter Road? That shop has been there for a while too
It looks like a nice wee place.
Yep, I've got a website which has driven customers my way but it's sporadic... is that the same for everyone?
I will contact the council, thanks.
My only problem with leafletting is that if I do it on the computer myself it looks unprofessional and printers can charge a fortune for it. I'm gonna investigate prices for this though.
Who thinks its worth offering a discount on leaflets? Do customers assume you're desparate? haha
I done it last Christmas and got nothing from it
I think I'm just having a bit of a down day!
Thanks,
Ange

You're right, If I've no money now then I'm gonna have even less when I get a shop.
I think its just nice to chat with someone sometimes, thanks
I'm best maid at my friends wedding on Friday so I have that to look forward to, then I'll bash on with being a success

Just to say that if you work from home you have to register with council as part of your house will now be rated as commercial.

In addition to the other suggestions - yell.com/website/leafleting I would also try and get some business from local hotels/wedding venues/restaurants. A lot of business is through word of mouth - have you been to any local business forums/chamber of commerce etc

If you took a shop, would you start from scratch or buy a going concern?

Ahhh, Wales must be different from Scotland as you only need to register your house commercially up here if you put a sign above the door saying "Florist shop'' or whatever
Cheers tho
