A tale of 2 very different flower shops

Been out to investigate a shop/wholesaler that I pass on my way to work; the guy who owns it was there and spent about 20 mins chatting with me - I was up front n told him I was just starting out and still studying but got a bit of work even tho still in my office job. He was really helpful, gave me his number said ring anytime to place wholesale orders - they never close (even Christmas Day!). He sold me a load of stuff for £2 - spray cars, cornflowers (my faves hence the avatar) and some foliage and gave me some other stuff - don't know what it was; he gave it to me free 'for practice' (the leaves were starting to turn). He also said if I wanted to use the shop workroom then no problem and was happy to offer some work experience. A massively busy shop, he introduced me to the girls working in there - both about to start level 2 and were really friendly.

The 2nd shop I went to was in a not very nice part of south London opposite a crem. I went in and the owner just followed me round as I was looking - guess he was worried that I was looking too closely as a lot of their stuff was really shabby. The ready made funeral stuff wasn't great quality - in finish and qual of fresh materials. I guess its type of shop people come in, grab something before going over to the crem. I couldn't wait to get out of there!

The first shop sounded lovely and what a difference that they are willing to give you experience even though you want your own shop as round here florists in my town always fob students off oh we don't take on college students we train up our selves or ring again in a cuple of months to see if there is an opening knowing full well yur wasting your breathe me on the other hand all i have is students i find this better for me personally as you also get the advantaging of learning new things from them and that they are mre willing to try something new if you knw what i mean

Will definitely keep in touch with the 1st shop - might see if I can get a couple of days in the shop over the next couple of weeks while its quiet at work and I can take some time off. When I'm back at school will order from him from time to time. He was a confident bloke in that he wasn't phased that there were 2 other florists up the road.

Like you Potty, I would be interested in students too and would always give em house room when I get my shop!
