really in depends on where you shop is . Is it on a main high street or is it hidden if it is hidden then a publicity stunt i am on a high street so people can see where i am as for people who do not come from my town i find the web is a great starting point i am getting more and more response this way. The last if you can call it publicity stunt i did was on an anniversay of opening of the shop and i had specailly designed cerise balloons with our logo on we gave these away to the children and cerise roses to the adults it was really good to see all the balloons through out the day walking up and down the roads and even when i was driving home i still saw children with my balloons

For me, having a website is really important, I get a lot of wedding enquries from that. On the general retail side, yell.com (enhanced listing with our web address on) and 118 247 have provided good value for money. The giving stuff away route and leaflet mail shots hasn't worked for us. But as Potty says it does depend a bit where your shop is. We are on the High St too, so everyone can easily see us.

Careful with the leaflet drop if you decide to take that route if you decide to put them on cars and they are thrown away you can be charged with littering it is a hefty fine

We have used radio in the past, quite expensive to get the coverage you want though.
We tied up with the newspaper to give a prize draw display. If you have a local paper, ask if they are doing any promotions that need a decent prize such as a £30 bouquet.
We have done it for wordsearch comps, spot the spoof ad etc.
If you are in a small set of shops, what about clubbing together to advertise half a dozen shops with a small editorial?
