Hi I'm Elaine and I own and run a busy florists in Cheshire, I've been open for just over a year, I buy mainly from the nearest wholesale markets but have just got rid of my dutch man as I was at the end of his round and his stuff wasn't lasting, he wasn't cheap either, I was wondering if anyone knows of any good Dutch companies that cover my area at the begining of their run?? and also if anyone knows of any good local growers I can buy from even if its just a few bits during the summer. I've been a florist for 12 years but worked over the other side of the country before getting my own shop so i've had no one to point me in the right direction with regards to suppliers.

Hello Elaine my shop is in cheshire. I'm not sure when suppliers would be round in your area it probably depends which bit of cheshire you're based in. But here are a couple.. Clogs in warrington is very good, its an indepenant wholesaler they don't do van sales, they have a big unit you can buy at, or they deliver all over. Their flowers are very good and they never let you down. 01625 289 289, ask for Bert.
Just Roses is a dutch van that calls round (they don't just do roses) , Jan has a nice selection, and is very good for wedding orders. 07985304154 Jan.
There aren't many growers in cheshire unfortunately anymore, we have jacksons alstromeria from Over Peover which is great they deliver weekly upto xmas and then they do wreathes etc, I can't remember the number but I'll get it for you when I'm in the shop and a couple others that I've used in the past

Hi I'm new on this site only found it by accident, really good though. We opened a shop 7 months ago now.It is so very very quite any ideas would be appreciated. So much waste. Also I contacted phil and he came to see me last week but did not turn up this week. The telephone number is not is use anymore any info on this as their alstro is very good. Where abouts is your shop?
Trade has been quite bad this year for retail in general, i've got a couple of friends with shops and they all say the same so don't panic that its just you.
We're lucky enough (or unlucky when we get the bill for the lease!) to be on the main shopping street so we have quite a bit of passing trade but its still been a tough year as me and my husband both work in the shop so there's no back up wage for the bad weeks.
If I can be of any help to you I will, what sort of shop have you got? traditional or modern? we do both and find thats best for us but it all depends on your area and the type of customers you get.

Thanks for your reply glad to see phil wasnt just missing me out then. I also do both modern and traditional. We are in south manchester (northenden), but we are not on a high street, so not a lot of passing trade, but we do get an awful lot of traffic passing from early in the morning till way past 6.00. We have split the shop into 2 halves we stock models and crafts on one side and floristy on the other side. Sounds a bit weird I know, but its a good job we did this as when one side is quiet, the other side does at least some business. Our shop is based in an area with a lot of visiting mormons but not sure if this is a good thing or not? What do you think ? Do they buy flowers as I have been told they keep to their own beliefs and trade with each other but don't know if this is true or not?

Put a big sign up in your window "10% off for Mormons" Im sure they will come buy then
