Hey there Belinda good luck getting a job. Im exactly like you I hate going in person I find I get nervous and stutter on my words. Its not that Im shy Im really not I just hate asking for stuff and maybe theres that rejection thing as well lol. I think its just a case of not giving up.

Don't lose heart Bel you've got this far don't give up. I think that rach and the rest who said to go in in person are probably right and perseverance will probably pay off, but i do know what you mean about not liking to go in face to face, i hate that sort of thing too but i think there's nothing else for it. I made a very very lame attempt at the beginning of the summer and got nowwhere cos i didn't stick at it , but will have to try and do something sooner rather than later if i want any shop experience at all, it's just hard juggling two kids,a part time job,night school and pleading with someone to take you on for a few days a week so i know it's hard. But don't give up and keep the rest of us students (and others) posted we're all keeping our fingers and toes crossed for you -Lylee xxx

:smile:Ohhh Belinda my little ducky,,I was once in your position,,about 15 years ago now actually,,I used to go in the same shop and talk to the girls and the owner and generally bug them and then the owner was my tutor during my 2nd year at college and I begged and begged her to let me sweep the floor,,she gave in eventuallly!! We are a funny breed you know us florists,,its really just a case of being the right person in the right place at the right time! But yes I agree with whoever said it,,go into your locals,,mention casually that you are student,,sweet-talk them,,you can do it,,they will start to remember you and you never know when opportunities arise in our shops,,they come up quite suddenly sometimes.

Take me for example,,I ring my 2 local colleges around now to see if there any students who want some shop experience in the run up to xmas,,if they do and they are any good and we like them then we have them back for valentines and m-day,, I have already got a nice lady lined up for this year,I can't be the only one that does this.

If people send me letters and cv's etc,,yes they usually end up in my pile of stuff on the end of my desk,,lost forever in the chaos !!

I have to say as well that you have to be the right person for that shop,,we work very closely together in stressful situations and you have to really really get on together!! Something will turn up,,it will ,,it always does. You might stand more chance in a bigger shop,,they could usually use an extra pair of hands at peaks etc,,you need to start now so they get used to your face!!

I did have a regular Florist that I went too for my flowers but it got a bit to expensive to buy them from there all the time. I go to a wholesale place now, a little cheaper for me.

I'll definately try and be brave and go in with my folder.
