buying stock from holland

was wondering if it is any cheaper to buy sundries from holland when you take into consideration the travel costs, fuel etc? I know its a boring thing to think about in comparison to the lovely stuff you can buy... it's just last time I went a few years ago it was on a jolly ather than a specific buying trip.

Does anyone have any idea about costs to have things sent over on pallets etc, my little van wouldn't fit much in. ta

Do you use a dutchman Sarah? I get all my xmas/VD/MD bits in Holland and my dutchman brings it all across for me. There's a much better selection and prices are cheaper too.

I know van remortels in Belgium charge around £70 to have a pallet delivered. So it is not much cheaper than the UK. The big difference is the quality of the goods and the selection you can get which is 100% better than the UK.
I make a weekend of it with my girlie as they have Sunday open days...so travel over late Saturday on the tunnel, nice hotel, beer and food, then a Berlingo van full to the top of goodies and home..and a Berlingo can fit £1500 of sundries with space to spare.. !!

I assume you take more than one vehicle then as you can't fit many girlies and £1500 stock in a berlingo!!

I know a couple of people who've been to Remoortel and never found it that great, I guess it totally depends on your style and what you're into though.

I haven't been over to Holland for years now... tempted by another visit though!

I have been to van Remortel, Didn't like it much I feel it is better in Holland at the Aalsmere auction, You can fly into Schiphol airport(if you fly flyb, thompson or easyjet you can get really cheap flights)You have to take proof of trading and vat no so you can claim it back, its about 20 mins away. you have to pack it up into boxes, your Dutch guy can pick it up. I have also driven with a friend (florist) and cut the cost. I also use www.egmondverpakkingen.nl Phone 0031252536910 they are about 15min away from airport. sorry the best ones are called basics and trends and Duif's they are good for glass ware(if your dutch guy is gentle)

buying stock in holland

l like this tread as l have always wanted to go to Holland and see what is available. How can you set up an account if you are very small fry and do not have a VAT number or a friendly dutchman to bring it back, do you have to be introduced ???

Hi Madison
You do not have to set up an account before you go, it is a cash and carry. however you will have to prove that you are trading as a business, so take along cheque book, shop utility bill, business cards. If you want to visit van egmond give them a ring (they are really nice and speak good english) you need to find out if there is a min speed, how much it is to ship a pallet?
If you want to visit the ones in the Aalsmere auction, it would be better to drive(do you know another florist not in your town to share costs and to help navigate) I have driven many times and it is not to bad. what area are you from? I am from Dorset so I go via the tunnel. It is 4.5 hours from Calais.Any more help required just ask.
