Have thought of a more specific question that may cause a bit more discussion along the same lines.....
IF ENVIRONMENTALLY PRACTICES ARE INSISTED ON IN THE FUTURE FOR BOTH GROWERS AND RETAILERS, HOW DO YOU THINK THIS MAY AFFECT THE TRADE IN YOUR AREA? Let me know what you think guys! Thanks Chris |

Yes I could I suppose...that is if your dinner has some form of impact on the environment of course!! Everything for me now relates someway to this dissertation...to tell you the truth though I agree, it really is starting to hurt my brain!!!!

BBC Gardeners' World Special 24th August 2007
Hi Everyone...
Just thought I would ask if anyone by any chance recorded the Gardeners' World Special on the UK cut flower industry. Think it was on the 24th August. My recorder decided to breakdown and didn't record it!! If anyone did could you drop me a post. Having a real nightmare trying to get a copy. Have looked on the BBC website and there is only a fact sheet about it, but could really do with seeing it again and taking some notes! Many Thanks Chris |

For instance 'Environmental Practices' could encompass every area of floristry. Would we have to begin thinking of Biogradeable wrapping/packaging ? Would we have to question the makeup of say Oasis blocks ? Would we have to think about water sources ? Would all of this increase prices and limmit the market ? |

Maybe in a hundred years when every stem is emebedded with a silicone chip so you can check it's origin over the internet i will start to believe that everyone is playing ball. As it stands now you can have a box delivered with "environmentally friendly, fair trade" and whatever printed all over it but what guarantee that the flowers are the same stems that were originally packed in it.
It's all very well sitting in your comfy armchair saying you are willing to forgo a little bit of profit to help the environment but think of the South American farmer living in a mud hut with 15 starving kids. Is he going to think the same way.
