Hi Chris,

My shop has recently undergone an IS4001 assessment, which as I'm sure you know charters the impact we have on the environment. I am by no means an expert on this issue but over the past few years we have adhered to certain restrictions imposed upon us by the assessment people (I'm sure they have a proper name!?!).
We now have a green waste collection three times a week, by a local firm who pass us anyway and as a goodwill gesture they collect it for us (free of charge). We minimise our 'rubbish' by having our flowers delivered in re-usable dutch buckets rather than cardboard. We send back the buckets twice weekly to ensure a quick turnover. We avoid using excessive plastic wrapping on flowers / gifts / plants ect... and were possible we use paper (recycled 4 million times already) and raffia. We don't store more than 2 cans of leafshine in the store at any one time (also for health and safety). Weddings are packed in cardboard that we have received from suppliers etc and we don't offer carrier bags. If a customer requests a bag we do provide but it is a paper bag.
It was difflicult at first to adapt to this method of working and it is easier to bin everything but after a few attempts it becomes second nature to seperate everything.

Thank you for the info...I have to admit though I hadn't heard of the assessment, so will now delve into that in a bit more detail.

I think all the things you have put in place are very impressive, and if you don't mind will be using those details of your business as an example in my dissertation.

I know there are far more important things to chat about but I have had a nightmare...the coffee morning did well, but was hoping to hand out my diss questionnaires but no one wanted to complete them so PLEASE keep writing in this thread if you haven't already!!!
