minimum wage increases and Holiday entitlement

Today the follow new rules apply:

The adult rate for the statutory minimum wage will go up from £5.35 to £5.52 and from £4.44 to £4.60 for 18 to 21-year-olds.

The rate for 16 and 17-year-olds will increase from £3.30 to £3.40 an hour.

The annual leave entitlement will rise from 20 to 24 days a year, for people who work five days a week, and will rise again to 28 days from April 2009.

So more costs to be added for us owners by the government

I'm not sure I understands this right. Is this ordinary wages for a trained florist? I hardly cannot believe it. Its less than half of what we have in Dk. There must be some tax differences as well then.I dont think my wages are that high

No no, its just this the MINIMUM amount anyone can be paid for any job
It is to try an stop poverty in Britain and make sure people are getting a fair wage... its still not enough to live on for most people but is better than having no minimum wage at all.
For example if you took on a trainee in your shop you would pay them minimum wage until they were better qualified.

As far as I have heard, people in Denmark have a higher quality of living than those in Britain. You get paid more but then it costs more to live.... I think

Yeah, totally. I'm not having a go. I wanted to explain to Nep what was meant by National Minimum Wage. I done my best to live off it for years and as I don't have kids I don't get WTC. I'm assuming you mean Working Tax Credits.
Not everyone has kids and I don't get a penny off the government.

As an employer do you have to contribute to Working Tax Credits? I've never had any dealings with this

umm yes as a Brit in Denmark can observe..May get paid more but boy with top rate tax at 60% (shop manger in England would pay this) and everything basically 2 x more than UK (cigarettes and fuel excluded) you need it. £5 a pint needs a deep pocket on a Friday night but your transport system works better than UK, then again that isn't hard !!
