Remember that young American guy who they made a film about, he pretended to be an airline pilot, he forged cheques and conned banks out of thousands upon thousands of dollars and travelled all over the place? I can't remember his name but once he came out of prison the FBI offered him a job! Well who best to catch the bad guys - someone who has been there and knows all the tricks of the trade.

The added bonus is of course that once you make them a good guy you eliminate the problem that you had with them as a bad guy. Does that make sense?
