Using the 'footprint' analogy. Imagine you are standing on one side of a large meadow perfectly covered in snow. You are in awe of it and want to preserve its beauty for as long as nature allows, but unfortunately, through no fault of your own have to get to the other side of the meadow. You could put on your size 12's and stomp right through the middle, kicking the snow as you go and making a rather ugly slush trail (Ruining the snow forever) but quicker and more convienient for you. You could go round very outside edge taking careful steps - it would take you longer, but your damage would be much less or you could try to find some eloborate way of crossing the field without ever touching the ground (hot air balloon?!), causing almost no damage to the snow but possibly being dangerous, extremely time consuming and down right bizarre.
To me, reducing my carbon footprint does not mean giving up electricity, warmth and modern life. To me it means being economical, thoughtful, responsible (composting/recycling where possible, fair trade, no air travel etc) and tiptoeing round the edge of the field. Now you are sorry you asked!!!!! ![]() |

to be honest, i'm not sure i really understand what it is. I don't really know whether i believe all the hype about 'global warming' either, it could just be a completely natural cycle???
Although i do think we should all do as much as we can to conserve the earths natural resources as they will not be around for ever, and there are plenty of viable alternatives now for producing energy etc. We are such a wastefull, 'throw-away' society now and it will probably bounce back and sock us right between the eyes one day! |
