Dont sell your cards.

The story :

The girls in the shop get a call from a nearby florist (local but friends of ours) They were just delivering tributes to a local FD (funeral director not flowers direct ), when she noticed a tribute in the funeral that she recognised, It was one that she had made a few days earlier for a diff. funeral, so she checked the card and found it to be a florist from the city centre, obviously she did what I and im sure most of u would, "she picked up the tribute and took out the card, gave card to FD and explained to him" at the same time a girl delivered some more items with same cards on, to cut a long story short, she confronted the girl, got nowhere, "said she was doing a favour for a friend" (btw there was a lot of items, not just one or two)

Back to shop with tribute, phones City centre shop, shop tells her, " We havent delivered anything for that funeral today, but we do SELL our cards with our names printed on the back" after some heated discussion the shop tells my friend that if they want to sell their cards then they will.

Conclusion : Someone, whether it was a freelancer (jobber, whatever) or the Centre shop had STOLEN the tribute from outside the Crematorium and sold it on as one of theirs, HOW SICK IS THAT !, have been trying to help the FD and the shop to work out who was responsible but nothing conclusive. Problem I see when this goes public (which it will, due to the original customer who bought the tribute being informed that their tribute was on its way with some other deceased), is that Where theres Smoke theres FIRE. that city center shop is gonna get the bad publicity no matter whether they are involved or not. Just to make a couple of pence on cards WTF.

Moral of this story.
DONT sell your gift/tribute cards to anyone.:

You just can't believe what some people will do can you? Let us know what happens FBA. When we deliver tributes we always leave a receipt slip with our details on and details of each tribute that way if there is a problem the FD knows who to contact and we always get them to sign for delivery. If this was common practise then maybe this sort of thing wouldn't happen. Mind you I suppose if they are scum enough to nick tributes then they wouldn't think twice about giving false details.

FD not involved, will update as we find out more,, the Tribute was taken from Crematorium AFTER the first funeral, My prob. with this, is that although we found the one item, HOW LONG has it been going on for, we will be informing as many TRUSTED florists as we can to make sure that we keep an eye out for any problems, One idea that ive been passing on and am using myself, is to leave a mark on all oasis based tributes, engraving the letters FBA on the underneath, whether it being foam based or plastic based and that way if there is any doubt on a particular item I can just check it easy, the girls have already started marking them.

That is a very good idea. The people ordering the tribute must know who they have purchased it from, and although it will cause them distress, they should know that they are being ripped off by a thief.

I have no problem selling cards for people to use themselves on gifts but not with my stamp on the back of it. Any florist allowing a card with their shop name and address on it to be used by someone else is a fool.

This is an excellent post, thank you FBA for bringing this foul practice to the attention of all florists, it's something we should all look out for.

Don't sell your cards

That really is a nasty thing to do to anyone, surely it must be against the law.
They should be shown up for what they are
I had a funeral last week and the deceased husband brought in a card from the FD to put on tribute, I told him I had cards in the shop however, when I was putting the card in a clear sleeve I noticed the card was from another florist over the bridge...I could not believe that the FD would give a customer a card from another florist, I said to customer I will cover that name up I do not wish my tribute to be associated wth another flower shop. I cut a white envelope and taped it to back of card and put one of my labels on the back of the card. I cannot believe the tricks some folk get up to.
