When is it too early for christmas???
Hi everyone
This will be my first christmas in my new shop, I've only been open 7 weeks. I had a little panic about christmas a few weeks ago and have now bought most of my initial christmas stock. It is sitting, already priced, at the back of my shop but I just dont know when is the right time to turn the shop in to a 'christmassy' paradise? I dont want to miss the boat, but I also dont want to go christmassy too soon? When do you all put your christmas bits out? Do you do it all on one date, or gradually? Thanks for your help in advance. |

I don't have a shop MD but here's my offering:
After the weekend when the clocks go back we'll all start to feel a bit more wintry with the dark evenings and it will be November by the following weekend. So I would say during the following week which will be 1st full week of November yule (geddit??) start to see your surroundings a lot more festive. What sort of location are you in? A busy road/high street. Our town centre lights are all up already and I think its too early

Hey i think even thats a bit too soon. cos most of us will back up sundries etc using fresh produce its an awful long time to have to keep a display running. I'm more the 2nd last week in Nov kinda girl - but each to there own I suppose. Use your customers to gauge things - if they ask sell!!

We never display our Christmas until after Halloween for 2 reasons; it's just toooooo early AND it shortens the sales season for Autumn goods.
Rock on......................

I agree with everyone else. Make the most of your autumn sales then once Bonfire Night it over on November 5th start thinking Christmas. What you could do now is make some simple handouts on the pc, with a few things that you intend to do for Christmas like door wreaths and table decorations. Give one of them with each till receipt so people are reminded of what they can get from you. If you make your own wreaths this is the time to start mossing the bases. Good luck with your first Christmas.
