Hi Worthingsally,
Sorry to hear about your elderly stalker!, I wish I had a 25 yeard old blond stalker! but sadly all I get is the opposit..... I'm glad to say that our business in the flower shop here is very good at the moment, but we are open under a year so the florist side has been getting busier and busier as the months have went on. Chritmas was an effort as it was our first 'peak trading' moment with plenty of chewed fingernails when it got to saturday night, but we had great trading on the Sunday and got through most of the gear. Although the garden centre here is quiet in January, the flower shop and the cafe is going well which helps to brign people into the store. So as Terry Wogan would say, "Musn't grumble.."

Hi Sally.
Don't panic we're really quiet too and we're on a main shopping street, today has been really bad, just looked at my figures for last year and from today onwards it picked up a little bit so fingers crossed. We have massive overheads because of our possition even though we're only a little shop so it does get a bit of a worry when its like this. Elaine ![]() |

Hi,
Sorry to hear about your experience with the balding superglue man. I just don't understand why some people go out of their way to be malicious! I'm in Manchester, and the wind here is just terrible. I'm not a florist (yet) but as a customer I'd certainly think twice about buying flowers and then watching them blown to pieces through the wind. As far as January goes, maybe people are just broke because of Christmas and are waiting for pay-day. Personally I think fresh flowers in January are really important because the natural light in our house is so gloomy at this time of year. We need something to brighten our space!

Superglue..I should be so lucky
I had the b*stards come through the front window...took the dell computer, printer, router, tel/fax machine, 2 digital cameras, flat screen tv and bracket off the wall (keeps the girls happy when quiet), till cashcd/radio + cd's, broke glasswear, vases and candles...tipped all the paperwork everywhere, business cards everywhere, even stole the birthday card with £25 m and s voucher I had left for our manager...total loss was 2,700 + vat and insurance paid within 12 days thank god..now got bars up at the windows alarm being fitted...thinking of renaming it alcatraz flowers !!

Hi All,
so sorry to hear of your bad experiences. We too have been broken into. Not recently though. The first time was by some kids, they messed the shop up, took a few bits, poohed in the loo and left. The second time was a bit more hurtful to my girls, myself and my pocket. We had just cut and conditioned about 500 passion, shedloads of other flower and foliage. It was put in the cooler overnight. Some 'B....d' broke into the garage and stole the whole lot, even the 'toot' bucket!!! PANIC!!!! It was for a wedding We later heardfrom sources their had been a wedding in the local 'travelor' area. So much for 'lucky heather' We are having a quiet time too |

If its any consolation, its pretty quiet all over Europe at the moment, but the UK is definitely the quietest.
Last Friday was probably the slowest Friday I can remember in the 20 years that I have been over here. When you think about the weather the last couple of weeks, rain, storms, forecast of sleet & snow, it doesnt really make you want to wander down the high street, and stop at the florists for a bouquet of flowers. Also, being a bit morbid maybe, but we could do with a damn good frost that always helps the funeral trade. Another couple of weeks, and its valentines, then Mothersday & easter, and before you know its the wedding season again ![]() |
