I had one like that today. Guy rings up who'd sent flowers to someone. He'd had a call from recipient, not 'Thank you so much' but 'Why'd you put cabbages in my bouquet?!' To cut a long story short I made him come back in with said bouquet and sent him packing with a new one. They just couldn't get their heads round the whole brassica thing so I suggested they might be more at home with carns and xanths.

Personally, take the pollen out of lilies as have had probs in the past about dry cleaning bills...on the flip side tho after knowing I had done that I wouldn't entertain a complaint...wouldn't even replace the bqt...just would apologise but say that is what was orderd and no special instructions were given...thats it...I can't hang around all day or lose profits for people like that!!

Like everyone else I automatically take the pollen out of any lilies before sending out a bouquet.
On day about 8 or 9 weeks ago a customer came into the and wanted a few lilies in a nice little handtied for her Mother in Law's Birthday. She seemed a friendly lady and was chatting away to me as I was making up the bouquet. I nearly had a heart attack when she suddenly screamed "STOP! What do you think you are doing to the lilies?" I was pulling the pollen off. I explained that when it was dry it would powder and stain. But she was most indignant. She said "It's not your place to take the pollen off, I want it left on!" So I forced a smile and wrapped her bouquet. I felt a bit set upon as I couldn't see why she was so indignant as I was just doing my job. It was only later over a nice cup of coffee (the old brain cells only work once stimulated with drugs ) that it occured to me. She had said that she didn't want to spend much on "the Mother in Law." The way she had spoken it was an obligatory gift and she didn't like her Mother in Law. So perhaps the real reason for buying them was that she wanted them to open and stain.![]()

Most definatly...!
I also had a customer come in a while back wanting to purchase lillies... She was totally shocked when I started pulling off the stamens ...She thought these were the "best" part of a lily and wouldn't let me do it..! I has a supplier ask me a while ago if I did do this... after saying that I did, they went on to say about another shop that sent them out with the stamen still on in a Wedding bouquet..! - Would hate to think what the dreses looked like after they rubbed up against them..! ![]() |
