Talking valentine roses

i have tried colombian roses a few times and cannot get on with them. yes they have large heads, but they never seem to open. The ones that do, look bruised to me. I'll stick with the ones I know. Passion and grand prix have never let me down, so far, fingers crossed.
we delivered 100 to a woman a couple of years ago on valentines day, I really thought this was an opening for a complaint, what chance is there of 100 lasting?
No probs. no complaint, she was thrilled.
Hope you all have a good one!!

All I have heard this week is Freedom this and Freedom that, if they are offering this rose for 73p to the whole of Europe, I hope they have enough stems to supply everyone!

The prices we have got direct from dutch growers this year are alot higher than last year it seems, so I am not sure what will happen with the auction price nearer the time.

I've just had my chrystal ball out, and this is what I forsee

It will be SOOOOO expensive on the Thursday & Friday, you wont know what hit you.

Because people are holding back so much, and nobody is prepared to commit themselves, it will be all last minute.

We are all getting fret up about the British market, but what about the rest of the world ? What about the eastern block ? They can afford more than we can !!!!

I think that the shit will really hit the fan on Friday 9th Feb. Monday will be a little easier, and Tuesday will be "reasonable"

Last year I used all passion and didn't get one complaint, fingers crossed for the same this year!
I've pre ordered my passion 1.15 for 60cm 1.35 for 70cm and £1.58 for 80cm I've been thinking about all the suppliers offering pre order prices and alot of people going for columbian roses and I bet passion will end up really cheap on the auction but i'm not taking the chance! (Gringo/Asprin what do you think??)
I was far too cheap with my dozen red roses last year as i was quoted £1 early on from the suppliers and priced accordingly, it was my first year in my own shop and when my delivery arrived with an invoice for the roses priced at £1.90 plus vat I could have cried, we made next to nothing on all the dozens we sent out. Well its a valuable lesson learnt and I wont be caught out this year!

1.15/1.35/1.58 are decent prices.

Trust me Passion will not go cheap. People dont realize some of the quantities required to fulfil orders.

Last year one company offered Passion 60cm to their customers in Germany for 0.55p !! guaranteed, but they where only allowed 200 stems per customer. The company had pre booked 40,000 at a growers for 0.63p (it was a loss leader promotion) and he had to buy another 40,000 on the clocks on the Friday for 1.30 !!!!

Hi every one as I said got the freedom yesterday ist time I had seen it no impressed looks even worse this morning still fresh and in good condition but sorry it does nothing for me sticking to passion going out at £60 per doz and grand prix hopefully 65 if you want bling etc as some of our customers have ordered diamonte into centre of roses it's extra £5 suppose it's cheaper than the real thing or maybe the ring is going with it. Good Luck everyone and don't do what a colleague in the south did last year ordered her roses for val her husband ordered the same amount so had double her order and NO made no money ended up practically giving them away rather than loose them. Hope everyone has plenty of orders and a very successful day. Rach

The fun has already started.

Passion has now almost hit the pound mark.

and its still only January !!!

Good luck to the unlucky ones that are going to be palmed off with fortnight old roses at valentines.

60cm has hit a pound yes, but 70cm you are looking at 1.35

Some poor women are going to get very old roses for valentines.

You two are getting me worried with all this talk of two week old roses!! my supplier and my dutch man both told they had a fixed price from the grower so long as I ordered before 29th of Jan do you think the roses will come straight from the grower and be fresh or will they be possibly two weeks old from the auction?? I know no one can say for definite but i'd be interested in you opinions.
Thanks Elaine

Yes I think everyone will be very worried with valentines mid week we really need fresh roses because we need them to last well over the weekend, which won't happen if we are getting 2 week old roses, otherwise we will all be in for a lot of complaints and customers looking for refunds. Come on Guys what's the story. Rach
