wedding help
Hi all,
Bit of advice needed if anyone can help me? Has anyone else made their own wedding flowers??????? is it a good idea/logistical nightmare/more hassle than its worth/wouldn't have had it any other way?? It's not til next october (and panicking already!! ) and i know the kind of things i want (did a wedding fair a few weeks back and had a practice) and my venue has already said i can take them the night before (made me laff! - contract said i had to liase with my florist to arrange delivery on the day and no earlier, so i talked to myself for a bit & decided i would be a bit too busy that morning!!!! )I have a girl who works with me to help me, plus she & a couple of other floristy friends are guests at the wedding so they could help put stuff out......just don't want any more hassle than is neccessary on the day, obviously - but don't know if i trust anyone else enough to do it for me ![]() Last edited by ARUMflowers; 10-11-2007 at 05:41 PM. To be honest I would advise getting someone you trust to do you flowers if at all possible. I will always remember my nice calm, relaxed morning of my wedding - I know personally speaking that making my own wedding flowers would not have been good for me.

i wouldn't want to do my own flowers, I would plan and design it then pass it onto a trusted florist so i could enjoy the day properly. I might make my own bouquet though
as its quite a personal thing

not really
![]() michelle who works with me is not very confident with wedding work (although she may be by next october), she's ok with buttonholes/corsages/table decs, just not brides bouquets. my floristy friend who i went to college with works full time & the lady who i used to work for is quite an old fashioned florist, so i don't think she will do it right. |

I did all my own wedding flowers, but only because I'm an utter control freak and would be a bridezilla from hell if I'd have got another florist to make them.
I made everything the day and night before with the help of a member of staff and my best friend from college (who made my gorgeous bouquet). Forward planning is needed, choose things that can be made a day or two in advance and definately close your shop if you have one to concentrate on doing them. I had goldfish bowls filled with grasses and gerebras in three sizes for the tables which were made up a couple of days beforehand, pedestals the day before, cake flowers made up the night before and then the whole cake was stored in the hotels cellar (pic in gallery.. pink gerbera one), buttonholes made up night before, get a couple of bottles of plonk in to get a few mates over to the reception venue to help you set up the tables... oh yes- I made my life easier by having my wedding and reception a country house, so only one place to decorate!!! It can be done, you just need to be super organised. |

ok.....
I'm good at the super-organised bit ![]() i only have one venue it isn't a big do so only top table and 3-4 others to do buttonholes sorted as having mango callas (the one i did for aforementioned wedding fair lasted a fortnight, so not worried about doing them a couple of days early) i'm pinching the idea that i did for my sis-in-law's ceremony and having 2 big front facing hand tied arrangements in tall gel-filled glass vases for pedestals - so even they could be done early No bridesmaids to faff about with ![]() That just leaves my BQ...........i think i might be ok with that. not shutting shop though (am worrying about shutting it on the day, but feel mean not inviting shell so she can open for me!) which brings me on to another dilemma - do we go on a honeymoon??? can i leave the shop for a whole week?? (i'll be glad when its all over!) |
