I tell everyone at the school gates that all their gardens look overgrown, and offer to go round (send hubby) to trim their greenery, works everytime!! then send twins on their bikes and they collect giant fircones from the next road, then invite twins friends round for an arty crafty evening, you can guess!!!! dipping and spraying fir cones and twigs with glitter and gold spray, of course I let them take a few home with them, I'm not that mean

saving money

Hi Im new to floristry done my BTEC National Award in Floristry Design not sure what its equivalent to and doing one day a week unpaid work in a florist shop.

My tips being a gardener are:

1 Ask council for allotment and grow your own foliage, eucalyptus, conifer, holly (takes a while), pittosporum, red dogwood. Grow it in rows where I live I think it is just £30 a year to rent out.

2 Offer your green waste to allotment holders for a small fee.

3 Approach conifer growers for cut off tree branches for wreaths it only gets shredded or composted otherwise.

4 To gain money where I work they have a points system and each florist that sells extras "add ons" chocolate, wine etc gets a point or if they get the buyer to buy a more expensive bouquet they get a point. When the winner gets to the top they get a small prize. All the florists take it as a laugh and no hard feelings but boy do they jump to get to the phone first to take orders!
5 As a soapmaker try adding unusual gifts instead of basic bears, chocolate and wines especially at xmas try handmade natural soaps. Mine arent certified yet but if you go on uksoaping yahoo group lots of people are and would be more than happy to do business Im sure. I think Daisy chain florists do this idea already.

Liz

Fly...I get your point about longjohns..they're nice and cozy! But have you lost your mind about the coffee???? How am I supposed to substitute water for coffee when I have coffee in my veins instead of blood? Have you ever thought about that? Hmmmm?? Trying to kill me or what?
just a baaaaddd idea.

good points so far everyone, unfortunately the allotment one probably wont work because it takes to long, and it costs money to get the allotment in the first place, but the other ideas were very good
