I dont often get annoyed, but this kind of thing really annoys me.
I probably dont have half as much experience as everyone else on this site, as I'm only 26, but, I have recently bought my own shop. When I used to say to a brilliant florist I used to work with "when will I be as good and as quick as you", she used to say "when your as old as me, I've been doing this longer then you've been alive!" It's been a hard hard struggle to get to my ambition and I have worked, trained and saved so hard to get to this point but I know for a fact that I am only half way there with what I still have to learn. Everyday you learn with this job and you cannot go in to it without any experience or training. I hate it when people say 'Oh, I'm creative I'd love to be a florist' or these people that just buy shops becasue they can afford to and think they can make a quick buck. It is hard hard work! These people that open shops because 'they are creative' aren't being fair to us, the proffessionals and they are not being fair to customers. What are they going to do if somebody walks in to their shop and asks for something that they dont know how to make. Its going to make them look stupid and perhaps make floristry in general look like a sham. There are so many things to take in to consideration when opening your own shop or even thinking about becoming a florist, inlcuding some of the smaller things such as .... The early mornings. The yukky smelly stuff. The cold temperatures. The dressing like a tramp because you have to wear so many layers to keep warm. The horrible hands and finger nails. The lack of money. But having said all that, I love my job! |
