Buying a florist shop
Hi everyone,
This is my first post. I have totally had enough with my Job and need to let my creative juices flow. So, i think i will be buying a shop. I think if my offer is excepted im going to bight the bullet and buy my own shop in London. The one im interested in is in central London. My fathers an accountant. He has checked all the books etc all seems in good order.I have had a passion for flowers etc since a child. The only problem is i have only been on a couple of day courses in hand tie and display work. So my exsperiance is very very limited. There is a full time lady running it at the moment who says will guide me in the right direction.Am i mad?????Has anyone else on here decided to take over an established shop. Any information would be greatfully recieved. |

I tend to agree with ellie, I also bought my shop last a year ago with years of experience and floristry qualifications
whats the rush why not get proper training first

you are sooo not ready for your own shop, sorry but no its crazy to open a shop with no experience,to be honest it make a complete mockery of florists everywhere, its like me cutting someones fringe and then wanting to open my own hairdressers, get yourself some experience,at least a couple of years, and then you should think about it, you may not even like working in a florist cos its very very hard

Hi I agree with the others. I took over a shop with staff but they were not ready for change so they left me just before mothers day. I managed as I had three years experience but I'm not sure if I could have coped otherwise. Do not rely on staff. Get yourself more training even mangement training.

I again have to agree I'm afraid...training is key. I'm changing career and doing a floristry course now to take over the family floristry business. You really do have to know what you are doing in case staff let you down.
