Advice and RE: wages
Just a query guys, don't want to sound money grabbing by any means, but could some of you folks with a florist business advise me of the going rate for a part-timer. I am half way through my C&G Level2 and have been working gratis in a florists one day a week for the last month and a half. Thperson that owns it has strongly hinted that they would be prepared to take me on 2-3 days a week perhaps next year which i am over the moon about, but i would have to rejig my nursing to fit in and it might mean leaving my permanent job and doing agency to pay the bills. If i could get an idea of what i realistically would earn this would help me get a plan in place. I am so excited and thrilled with the opportunity that i would work for nought if i could afford it (I can't). Any comments gladly appreciated, many thanks - lylee

To be honest £6 an hour is more than i would have thought i would get so i will just have to wait and see what i am offered. I am really keen to grab this opportunity with both hands as you don't get many people wanting to take on a mature student and she's been brilliant with me so far, i think i would really enjoy it so i am determined to try and make this work.

One of the girls on my course who has some experience in a florist recently went for 2 x full time jobs in London - one in the City was paying £13k a year and the other in a smart area was offering £9k - don't know what that works out to if you pro rata it to 3 days a week

I know a girl that worked in a warehouse type place doing h-tieds all day and she was paid £8.50 an hour,,,she hated it cos it was so repetitive and samey she left and took a job for much less but is much happier. That was in a big city though in an outlet with multiple retail units so higher wages would be possible. Wouldn't bank on much more than £6 an hour though,,,when I first worked in a shop I was paid £3 an hour!!!
