The one thing you must do is look at the competition, work out a USP (unique selling point) and try to fall in line in a way with others in your area or you could price yourself out of the market or be a busy fool.
Calculate your overheads down to a weekly amount and then you know you have to take that before you make a profit. Think about the quality and the amount in your basic lines and and see what you can do differently, then add in customer nuisance. By that I mean have you got to get up at 5am to go to market to fulfill the order in today for a £50 funeral piece before your next lot of flowers are due? I f this is the case you have to add the nuisance factor to the amount..... You have no idea how fluid you have to be........ P.S.Look,Super sreensaver! Feature in F&WB
I'm doing a feature on pricing and costing systems. I'll be working with florists around the country so that we can be sensible on both a national and regional basis as well as a business consultant who will guide on what should be charged. It's going in either the Jan or Feb issue, Moulder if you'd like a copy send me your address and I'll ask Heather to do the necessaries when it comes out.

Everyones pricing is going to be differant.. things to take into consideration are:
Quality of the stock purchased..... we try our best to buy the best.... some local (local to us) shops seem to be the opposite and get the cheapest... how much time and money u wish to spend on conditioning the flowers etc... your wastage, your overheads such as Business rates etc..(are u out of town shop or town Center... rates are varied)... staff... do u employ qualified staff or exp. shop assistants... etc. etc. could go on for ages but shop is closing and id have to pay overtime which would knock up the price.Get some exp. in a flower shop b4 u attempt anything.

Hey Stacey thats great! But arn't hormones a bitch! Tell you what even if you don't cover it in college ask your tutor to run through it - although I never found the college pricing actually came into play (for example items I now charge £25 for worked out in college using their structure about £75 and I would never sell them lol) but it might give you a starting point.
